I write this while sitting in a train on the way to Delhi from Patna. The past month and a half has been filled with some amazing travel. Towards the end of December, I left Patna and headed towards Darjeeling via Kolkata. I took off from Patna an hour late, and filled with dread. My flight was delayed by an hour; and I only had an hour between arrival in Kolkata and my departing flight to Bagdogra. The gates had closed by the time I arrived in Kolkata. (Click Read more...)

Got back to Patna yesterday after an awesome vacation to the Himalayas. Went with Charlie, Nicole, Tatiana (Clinton Fellows) and her friend Anya to Darjeeling and then set off on a trek on the Singalila Ridge. Saw amazing views of Kanchendzonga, Everest, the Annapurna Range and many other Himalayan peaks. A longer story in a bit.

Tinariwen, a Malian Tuareg band, is the best band in the world. Period. Go buy their albums today.

But really, it is amazing music. Tinariwen, formed by Tuareg rebels in Gaddafi's refugee camps for the Tuareg in Libya, is music that captivates the soul. Desert Blues they call them. To read more about Tinariwen, go here.

They were also rated number 1 by a Times article about world music of the "noughties."

While at the MRF today, I was inside the storage facility and heard some rustling in the piles of recyclables. It sounded like scurrying. So I looked in the direction where the sound was coming from, hoping to see what was making it. I spotted a tiny face peeking out at me, then another. We have puppies! There's apparently a hole in the wall somewhere and one of the stray dogs decided to give birth inside.
