The Gangetic Dolphin

The endangered Gangetic fresh water dolphin has been declared the national aquatic animal of India, and its hunting, capture and trade has been banned in Bihar. Good news!

Amitav Ghosh has written a great novel, "The Hungry Tide", which is based in the Sunderban area of Bengal. In it he also writes about the Irrawadi Dolphin, also very much an endangered species. The novel is a very interesting read on this whole area.
